Museum of the aviation of Belgrade
The Musée of the aviation of Belgrade (in Serbe Cyrillique МузејваздухопловствауБеограду and in Serbe transliterated Muzej vazduhoplovstva U Beogradu) is located on an esplanade which faces the airport Nikola Tesla, the international airport of Belgrade, the capital of the Serbia. It is in the municipality of Surčin.
Presentation
The Museum of the aviation of Belgrade was created in 1957 but the current building, designed by the architect Ivan Štraus, was opened with the public the May 21st 1989. The building, which resembles a mushroom of glass and steel, presents the part worth visiting of the collection.
The museum has more than 200 apparatuses used by the Yugoslav air force; around fifty are in turn exposed inside the building. Some of them are the single specimen of their type remaining in the world, like FIAT G.50. The museum also presents the wreck of a furtive plane of attacks on the ground F-117 Nighthawk, cut down by Serb aviation in the wars of the years 1990.
In addition to the apparatuses, the museum shelters a collection of photographs and films of file and all kinds of documents on the history of aviation in Serbia and, more generally, in the ex- Yugoslavia.
