Museum of the audience

The Museum of the audience , located 7, Main street in the middle of the medieval city of Holy-Suzanne, was acquired in 1973 by the association of the friends of Holy-Suzanne , founded in 1961 , and was installed in a house of the 17th century, old audience of justice, with the angle of the grand' street and street of the audience .

Permanent exposure

On 6 2 level and showrooms, the museum recalls more than thousand years of history of the city and the territory of Erve and Charnie through the exposure of authentic objects, models and reconstituted scenes:
  • Celtic Period and Early middle ages; vitrified stones; models of the city and the Camp of Beugy
  • the seat of 1083 - 1086 by the troops of William the Conqueror
  • the War One hundred Year old. The museum presents the oldest armor preserved in France (1410 - 1420), of the couleuvrines, veuglaires, squares of crossbows, English arcs…
  • the 17th century and the creation of the Post office of State in France
  • the revolutionary period, salt and the Chouannerie in the West; history of Perrine Dugué.

Temporary exhibition

The summer 2007, the Museum presents to the castle of Holy-Suzanne an exposure on the daily life of Suzannais of the second empire the day before the First World War. It consists of objects usually nonexposed to the Museum. It will take place in the " bergerie" castle of mid-June mid-September.

Visits

  • the Museum is opened to the individual visitors (free visit) each day of July and August.
  • the Museum in addition proposes visits with accompanying notes for the groups of more than ten people:

    • night Guided visit
    • Museum
    • Camp of Beugy or camp of English
    • Walk of the mills along the river the Erve, first Sunday of the month afternoon.

Teaching workshops

Within the framework of the Country of Art and History Coëvrons - Mayenne the Museum organizes, for school framed their teachers, many teaching workshops, dependant on the history of the fortress or to the economic life of the city formerly:
  • Of corn to the bread
  • the manufacture of paper
  • the extraction of the color of the plants
  • Town planning and defense system
  • the seat of a fortress
  • the costume in the medieval company
  • the heraldic one: to create its blazon.

The summer, the museum organizes in addition, for all, of animations around:

  • penmanship
  • costumes of antan
and organizes conferences on the history of the area.

The large-mill

The old communal mill of Holy-Suzanne, known as " the Largeone; or mill of the Viscount (Viscount of Beaumont), which always has its wheel, its mechanisms and its grinding stones, was acquired by the Communauté of Communes of Erve and Charnie and the SVET of the Coëvrons. A part, already arranged, is as of now operational accommodating the teaching workshops, of work of staking are ensured by the voluntary ones, and the remainder of the mill will be restored in 2008 - 2009; one will be able to visit there a mill with flour and a mill with paper , the river the Erve being formerly bordered of many paper mills, and Holy-Suzanne equipped with a factory of charts to play. The animation of the mill will be ensured, as for the museum of the audience, by the association of the friends of Holy-Suzanne.

Files and Library of local history

  • the Museum holds a certain number of authentic files and has several hundreds of works relating to the history of the Maine, its geography or its sociology, more particularly for the area of the Coëvrons, the Erve and the Charnie.
  • It has moreover funds made up of tools of many trades (sabot-maker, shoe-maker, miller, pit sawyer, blacksmith, etc…)
  • the Museum publishes itself of the works on the local history, and markets teaching and historical books:
