Museum of contemporary art of Chicago
The Museum of Contemporary art of Chicago ( The Museum off Contemporary Art ) known under the three letters MCA , is close to Water Tower Place in the center of Chicago (). It is located since 1996 to the 220 East Chicago Avenue in the district of Streeterville, Near North Side. It was founded in 1967 like place of temporary exhibition of contemporary art; its first director was then Jan van der Marck. In 1969, the museum was used as site with the first " building wrap" of Christo in the United States. It on this occasion was wrapped of more than 700 m ² of cover. In 1974, it started to acquire permanent collections of creations dating from after Second world war. It is also here that many artists exposed their first works: Frida Kahlo in 1978? , daN Flavin in 1967, Jeff Koons in 1988. The most visited exposure was that of Robert Mapplethorpe in 1989 ( The Perfect Moment ).
Today, the collection of the museum is composed of more than 6.000 parts by artists such as Lee Bontecou or Robert Smithson. The museum exposes new artists and new works each month.

Building of Kleihues
In 1996, a building was conceived for the museum by the German architect Josef Paul Kleihues to the 220 East Chicago Avenue. Previously, the museum was located in a space much smaller.
