The Museum of Art and History is installed in the Hotel Dupuy d' Angeac, built in 1838 inside the Public garden of Cognac.
History
The museum settled in the Hotel Dupuy d' Angeac in 1925.It increased by opening a zone of exposure to the ground floor of one as of the wing of the main courtyard and offices on the first floor.
Presentation
This museum is composed of several sections:The section " Archéologie" present various objects coming from the prehistoric, Gallo-Roman layers and mérovingiens of the Cognac area. The major piece is a Pirog Neolithic monoxyle .
The ceramic section with mainly it ceramic regional which is represented by pottery and earthenware of the Neolithic era at the beginning of the 20th century. The Faïence of Charente has a choice place there
Dishes and delftware plates are exposed as well as a very beautiful Chinese earthenware collection.
The section " Art schools and Arts décoratifs" present works of XVIe to the XXe century, especially of works of Charente-native artists and a collection of objects Art nouveau of Galle, Daum, Lalique inter alia.
The section " Arts and traditions populaires" is composed of pieces of furniture and traditional objects of the Cognac countries presented in a reconstitution of a Charente-native rural interior, the standard dwelling of the small wine growers at the end of the 19th century. The traditional costume comprises quichnottes and Coiffe S carried at that time to Cognac and in Saintonge.
