Museum of Art and History of Langres

Collections on 4 levels. The visit proceeds according to a course which adopts a chronological logic:

Prehistory, protohistoire and Mediterranean civilizations. The paleolithic time is illustrated by the discoveries carried out in a habitat troglodytic with Farincourt. Vestiges put at the day with Cohons then make it possible to recall the evolution of a habitat of the Neolithic to the Bronze Age.

Discovered Andemantunnum (Langres), the capital of the Lingons and Graeco-Roman civilization: of which mosaic of Bacchus (discovery in 1985 on the spot at the time of the excavations which preceded the construction of the new museum and restored with the museum by Romain Saint as a Gall (69))

a ramp approach soft inclined makes it possible to penetrate in the Saint-Didier church, building of which the oldest part goes back to XIIème century. In the chorus and the Nef are presented works of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, statues and low-reliefs (Joseph Saint, Saint Didier carrying its head, Sainte Catherine of Alexandria…), polychrome group out of ivory of XIVème century known as of the Annunciation of Philippe the Bold one, pavement of the vault of Amoncourt (XVIème).

Paintings Frenchwoman, Flemish, Italian of the the Middle Ages at the 20th century (Van Lint, Gillot, Tassel, Vignon, Largilliere, Gustave Gilded, Bonnat, Leclerc…).

One reaches the new wing by an air footbridge in which some testimonys of the production coutelière langroise are exposed. Earthenware of Aprey (17th century), tins and porcelains of Giey-on-Aujon come to supplement this panorama on the artisanal and industrial activities regional.
