Museum François-Pilot
The Musée François-Pilot is a Musée of Ethnologie, i.e. he proposes to present a group by illustrating his habits, his Mœurs and its activities. He is named in the honor of the founder of the agroalimentary Institut of technology (ITA) of Pocatière.
We wanted to make live again under the eyes of the visitors one time of our regional history, that of the beginning of the century. The rooms reconstitute the microscome, the rural small world, closed again on itself, which was to survive by its own means, especially during the winter season. In the countryside, an important parish counted farmers and some middle-class men like a doctor, a notary, merchants and always a priest.
The establishment of an agricultural museum was essential with Pocatière, the cradle of agricultural training to the Canada. It is here that was founded, in 1859, the first school of permanent agriculture in Canada. For Pocatière, it was thus a duty to illustrate, in a museum, the little story of our rural parishes. In such a project, it is necessary to channel all the good wills, the resources of our institutions, our old families and our collectors. We added the natural science: birds and mammals. The Museum François-Pilot carried out all that with tiny pecuniary means and much of voluntary help.
