Aucey-the-Plain (to pronounce //) is a common French located in the department of the Manche and the area Basse-Normandie.
Geography
Aucey-the-plain is a commune bordering on the Brittany in the extreme south-west of the Manche, in the canton of Pontorson. It is distant of 4 km of the chief town of canton and 28 km Avranches, chief town of district. Aucey-the-plain is bordered of three rivers: the Couesnon, marking the historical border with Brittany, which throws itself in the bay of the Mount Saint-Michel, and two of its affluents. In north, the brook of the Moors-Besnel, in limit of the commune of Boucey, and in the south Loison, separating Aucey from the communes of Vessey and Sacey.Common neighbors: Boucey, Cormeray, Vessey, Sacey, Sougéal.
The surface of the commune is of 939 hectares. Its altitude varies between 5 and 61 meters. The lowest part, along the Couesnon is marshy and frequently flooded in winter. The majority of the grounds of the commune are schistous, except for the alluvia which one finds bordering on the grounds the Couesnon.
The landscape is rather flat and mainly agrarian. Common the summer re-allocated in 1985 but one still finds a little slope and hedges, and some wooded surfaces. In the marshy part were planted a great number of poplars. The economy is dominated by agriculture: agricultural surface used accounts for 90% of the total surface area. The cultivated fields occupy one the third of surfaces with a predominance of temporary meadows, corn forages and of cereals.
History
Formerly Aucey, the common one added " the plaine" with its name in 1927 to avoid confusions with the commune of Auxais, close to Saint-Lo.

Places and monuments
Parish church Notre-Dame: built at the XVIIIe century.Vault and Fontaine Notre-Dame de Fiévroux: Very old place of pilgrimage. According to the tradition, an oratory was set up with the site of a source to the healing virtues, at one time when the fever of the marshes decimated the population. The vault dates from XVIe century. In ruins with the revolution it was raised about 1820.
Castle of Kerns: Built between 1851 and 1858 by the architect of Rennes Jacques Mellet. Interior decoration carried out by Jobbé-Duval, and park drawn by Paul de Choulot.
Castle of Guépéroux: End 18th. Site of the " Perroux" ford; , old passage to ford crossing the Couesnon. There was a guardroom to the Middle Ages.
