Murol

Murol is a common French, located in the department of the Puy-de-Dôme and the area Auvergne.

Geography

History

The site is occupied since the Gallic time. The Château of Murol is built at the 12th century. At the beginning of the 20th century, many painters settle on the spot and constitute the Ecole of Murol , of impressionist style .

In the neighborhoods of 1830, a " s" is added in the name of the village which becomes Murols then. This " s" will be removed in 1953 by the Council of State.

Murol is known for its castle built at the 12th century and modernized at the 16th century, preserved rather well.

One can also recall that this village gave its name to a cheese, the Murol of Large Bérioux.

Personalities related to the commune

The abbot Boudal (1858-1934) and the painter Victor Charreton (1864-1936) are the principal organizers of the School of Murol.
