History
A Benedictine abbey is founded by Saint Pirmin in 728, in a valley with the foot of the Grand Balloon. Recognized by the charter of Widergern, bishop of Strasbourg, and confirmed by Thierry IV in 728, it owes its radiation with the Count Eberhard, which made gift of the neighbouring grounds and thereafter of a multitude of other goods.
The current abbey is a masterpiece of Romance art .
