Muntingiaceae

The family of the Muntingiacées is an small family of plants Dicotylédone S, pertaining to the order of the Malvales and which includes/understands 3 species divided into 3 kinds:

  • Dicraspidia , Muntingia , Neotessmannia .

They are trees or shrubs, areas tropical, originating in tropical America, close to the Tiliacées or Élaéocarpacées but the phylogenetic classification makes a particular family of it. The traditional Classification of Cronquist locates these kinds in the family of the Tiliacées.

Its most characteristic representative, the cherry tree of Jamaica (Muntingia will calabura) is largely introduced into all the tropical areas and gives edible fruits.
