Munténie

The Munténie (in Rumanian: Muntenia ) is an area of the south of the Romania located between the the Danube at the south and the east, the southernmost Carpates in north, and the Olt in the west. It is made up of the following judeţe: Argeş, Brăila, Buzău, Călăraşi, Dâmboviţa, Giurgiu, Ialomiţa, Ilfov, Prahova, Teleorman, Bucharest, Olt and Vâlcea.

Munténie was the name given by the Moldavian , living the Moldavie, and the Polish, living the Poland, with the whole of the Valachie, at the 13th century, as of its formation as a principality. It is only later, at the 16th century, that the names of Olténie appeared, specifically to indicate the western part on other side of the Olt, and of Oltènes, and that one started to make a clearer territorial distinction.
