Municipal elections of 2001 in Lyon

These municipal elections was the theater of a duel on the right between Michel Mercier (UDF, also supported by the RPR, RPF and DLL) and Charles Million (DLC). The left, it, was represented by Gerard Collomb (PS, also supported by the PCF, PRG, MDC and Greens), systematic candidate with the town hall since 1989. The left finally carried it, putting an end to the reign line with the head of the town of Lyon.

First turn (March 11th, 2001)

First District

District anchored on the left, 1st did not pose any problem with the Socialists. As of the first turn, the left is distinguished with very good scores for the Buna lists like for the two lists trotskists which, together, border the 10%. The line, divided (3 lists), does not manage to continue and this does not announce anything good for the second turn. The extreme-right-hand side, it, is from the start drawn aside with a particularly weak score (4%). The lists without-labels or various-ecologists realize, with them three, a good score, bordering the 11,60%. The abstention will have been assembled to 37,71% for this first turn. The lists Buna, Finas and Mosnier-Lay are thus the only ones to pass to the second turn.

Second District

In this preserving district, the lines face a plain left presenting only one list whose score remains disappointing (25,44%). The line and the extreme line thus carry, as of the first turn, nearly 70% of the votes. The outgoing mayor, Albéric de Lavernée, although supported by a coalition RPR-UDF-DL-RPF, are put in difficulty by Denis Broliquier, supported by the millonists, that it outdistances only few points. The second turn will thus be marked by a duel on the right whereas the list of the plural left undoubtedly plays only one part of appear. At the time of this first turn, the abstention was assembled to 35,82%. To the second turn will be present the lists Broliquier, De Lavernée and Gelas.

Third District

The third district was one of the key districts of these elections since particularly dubious. The line famous was slightly favoured there but its divisions were going to handicap it. Indeed, as of the first turn, it is the Socialist Martine Roure who takes the head of the race to the town hall of the district. On the right, the duel Jean-Michel Dubernard-Charles Million shows an quasi-equality, the two men obtaining both 24,2%. There The FN, carries out to him one of its best score in the town of Lyon with its 7,3%. The abstention, at the time of this first turn, is assembled to 36,76%. The lists Roure, Dubernard and Million thus move towards the second turn.

Fourth District

As in many other districts the list of the union of the left overrides a divided line. The independent list " Good citizenship with Lyon" (which realizes in the other districts of the scores between 3 and 5,65%) here its best score with 6,35%.La list LCR obtains it obtains also its best score in this district because of the absence of a list Workers' struggle. The lists Dumb man, Caillet and Chandelon remain with the second turn.

Fifth District

The list of the plural left arrives at the head whereas the line carries out a good score (49,4%). The lists Balance, Draper and Isaac-Sibille are maintained to the second turn.

Sixth District

In this district the left is outdistanced as of the first and the victory will be played between the list millonist and that the traditional line. The chief candidate of the DLC is not other than the woman of Charles Million, his president. The lists Bawler, Nachury and Chevassus are maintained to the second turn.

Seventh District

In this district as in the 3°, the 4° and the 5° the principal list of left takes the first place thanks to the division of the right-hand side. The national FN made there its third better score in Lyon. The lists present for the second turn are the lists Flaconnèche, Desbazeille and Fulchiron.

Eighth District

The list of union of the left dominates the debates briskly while competition is even stronger on the right since the FN obtains in this district the 10% necessary to go to the second turn. The president of the area the Rhone-Alps, Anne-Marie Comparini, arrives in front of her rival of right-hand side but far behind Jean-Louis Tourraine. The Touraine lists, Comparini, Bargoin and Chicard pass the first turn.

Ninth District

Gerard Collomb largely dominates the line in this popular district where the FN makes its second better score without reach the bar of the 10%. The lists qualified for the second turn are thus the lists Collomb, Magnin and Mardone.
