Municipal Arboretum of Glass-the-Bush

The municipal Arboretum of Glass-the-Bush , of its complete name municipal Arboretum of Glass-the-Bush, voluntary Natural reserve Roger de Vilmorin, House of the Trees and the Birds is classified voluntary Natural reserve since 1988 and regional Natural reserve since 2004.

It is about a public extension of the Arboretum Vilmorin, this last pertaining to the Vilmorin family.

By way of succession the municipal arboretum which extends on a surface from 1,5 hectare belonged a long time to the family of Arjuzon, before the town hall of Canopies becomes owner in 1975 about it.

She gave whole management of it to an at the time incipient association: the “  House of the Trees and Oiseaux  ” made up only of young people from 14 to 25 years which meet every saturday to maintain the arboretum.

The rehabilitation of this arboretum comprised several phases:

  • the clearing
  • the scientific inventory of the species present on the site with the assistance of a scientific committee.
  • the valorization of the site near the public in an objective of sensitizing to the environment.

More than 200 species of remarkable trees of the northern Hemisphere is present in the arboretum. It is organized in various places: the raised zone, the evolutionary waste land, the orchard, the meadow with late mowing, the meadow, the pond and the zone of seedbed which sees growing of new species coming to enrich diversity by the arboretum.

The site is open in week for visits of groups on reservation and the Week-end for all 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All the visits are free.
