Multiprocessor

A Ordinateur multiprocessor is equipped with several Processeur S. a computer single processor comprises of them one, a bi-processor two.

Goal

In any computing system certain forms of parallelisms are exploitable, they are precisely development by this type of computer. Parallelism can be exploited on several levels:

  1. resources of the processor: when this one has several units usable at the same time, which is typically the case of the processors with a pipeline.

  2. instruction: independent instructions can be carried out jointly.
  3. tasks (or process): several processes are likely to be able to be carried out by a processor at the same time.

Topology of interconnection

One of the important characteristics of the computers multiprocessor and simple processor is the topology of the network which connects the processors between them. About all topologies were used, one can nevertheless illustrate some of them:

;

  • Unix gradually loses ground vis-a-vis Linux, but still occupies a choice place on the market of the supercomputers (17,20  %);
  • BSD and Mac OS is very little represented (0,60  % each);
  • Windows can manage only to the maximum 2 processors, except in certain specific versions “waiter”, enabling him to manage according to versions 4,8 or 32 processors. It is almost non-existent on the market of the supercomputers (only 2 of the 500 most powerful supercomputers of planet make turn Windows).
