Multipoint room Distribution Service

The Local Multipoint Distribution Service (LMDS) is a broad band technology of access by radio waves. It uses frequencies located between 26 and 29 GHz. In the United States, frequencies located between 31.0 and 31.3 GHz are also used by this technology.

The LMDS is mainly intended for uses of the type Point to multipoint (a basic station communicates with several stations of user) at distances being able to reach 8 kilometers but quickly limited by the rain (being given frequencies used). Technology can also be employed to carry out connections Point-to-point, outdistances it cover can then be increased by using directional antennas.

Technology WIMAX is preferred today with the LMDS since it of better flows, of the longest distances from cover and better conditions of transmission.
