Multimeter
see also: Etymology of Multimeter
A multimeter (also called universal controller ) is an electric whole of measuring devices S contained in only one case, generally consisted of a Voltmètre, a Ampèremètre and a Ohmmètre.
The choice of the type of measurement (of the instrument), of the gauges or scale of measurement is generally done using a rotary switch, pushbuttons can order additional functions.
- the most recent multimeters, often easiest to use, automatically choose the good mode and the good gauge.
- the oldest models of multimeters use a bill-poster with Aiguille controlled by a milliammeter with mobile framework.
- From now on, the digital display with Liquid crystals is of rigor.
- Parfois, posting is summarized with some leds which provides a brief indication, but sufficient for the Opérateur.
Other functions of measurement available according to the degree of sophistication of the multimeter:
- Test of continuity with or without sound-effects man;
- Amplification to measure the very low tensions and the high resistances;
- Measurement of the capacity of a condensing ;
- Measurement temperature, with the assistance of a external Probe;
- Tests of discrete semiconductor: Diode S, Transistor S;
- Measurement of Frequency of electrical signals;
- Measurement of the peaks (high and low) of tension;
- Checking of the absence of tension (VAT).
