Multi-User Dungeon
A Multi-User Dungeon , more commonly called MUD is a Video game lodged by a waiter on Internet. The players incarnate a character and see textual descriptions of rooms, objects or other characters in a virtual world. They can interact between-them and with the environment by typing orders which resemble the current language.
MUDs traditional implement a fantastic Monde populated mythological creatures such as Elfe S, Goblin S and others. As for the players, they incarnate knight S, Sorcière S and others. It is thus very rare to meet a French MUD (or in any case, completely French).
History
The first MUD appeared in 1978, and gained in popularity with the the United States in the years 1980, thanks to the popularization of data processing. The Roguelike S were also popular at the time. In same time in Europe, the development of the MUD was centered on the university networks, particularly at the university of Essex. The interns and external were numerous to play there. In this context, the MUD were called “Multi-Undergrad Destroyer”.
The original MUD printed their inspiration from plays as a paper version like Donjons and Dragons and on computer Colossal Undermines Adventure. Roy Trubshaw and Richard Bartle is probably the authors of the first MUD. A version of this first MUD always turns to http://www.british-legends.com.
The first commercial MUD, appeared in 1985. SHADES was accessible in Great Britain via the system Prestel.
Scene MUD, always very active on Internet, is accessible via the standard telnet or of the more attractive MUDs customers.

MUDs graphs

EnsiMUD : Perhaps oldest French mud: Exist since January 1994. Ensimud is a mud known as “hack & slash”, i.e. based on the evolution of a character via the combat and the accumulation of point of experiment. Fallen in the lapse of memory, the play still survives via a small community which concentrates on the realization of a new version.
