The road is two-track on most of its course. It follows the peak of the Santa Monica Mountains and the Hollywood Hills. Its Eastern terminus is its intersection with Cahuenga Boulevard on the Col of Cahuenga. The road continues in the west and offers very appreciated panoramas of Los Angeles and Vallée of San Fernando. Many film stars and music elected residence in the surroundings of this portion of the road. Mulholland Drive is not opened with the vehicles on the portion which goes from Encino Hills Drive to Topanga Canyon Boulevard, which is used by the hikers. After Topanga Canyon Boulevard, Mulholland Drive is divided between Mulholland Drive, which finishes on the 101 where it becomes Valley Circle Boulevard, and Mullholland Highway, which continues towards south-west until the California State Route 1, on Leo Carillo State Beach, close to the Pacific Ocean.
