Muhammad (Tahiride)
Muhammad Ben Tâhir Ben `Abd Allah () or Muhammad is the last governor Tâhiride Khorasan with the service of the Caliph S Abbassides of 862 with 873. He died towards 890.
History
With died of his father Tâhir Ben `Abd Allah (Tâhir II) in 862, the caliph Al-Musta' in would have preferred to name at this station his uncle Muhammad Ben “Abd Allah, but this one refused this nomination. The caliph unwillingly agreed to name Muhammad Ben Tâhir as governor of Khorasan, but this one was private other titles of his/her father: military governor of Baghdad, the Iraq. These two functions were allotted to his/her uncle.
Its reign as governor of Khorasan
At the beginning of its governorship, Muhammad was rather young person and inexperienced. In 864, the province of the Tabaristan was removed to him by a revolt of the Zaydites and it was unable to reconquer this province. In 867, the emir Saffâride of the Sistan Ya' qub Ben Laith took Herat and imprisoned the governor of the city. An army Samanide come in reinforcement to stop the advance of Ya `qub was overcome. After that Muhammad was constrained to finish some. It tried to take again with his uncle Muhammad Ben `Abd Allah the functions that it had taken to him. The latter died in 867 and it is his/her brother `Ubayd Allah Ben `Abd Allah who begun again his functions. Muhammad sent another uncle Sulayman Ben “Abd Allah to support it in its ambitions near the caliph. Sulayman succeeds in taking these stations at the expense of `Ubayd Allah, unless `Ubayd Allah simply lost them. The weakness of the governorship of Muhammad on Khorasan involved the end of the domination of Tâhirides on the area. In 873, Saffâride Ya' qub Ben Laith made walk towards Nichapour, the capital. Muhammad refused to flee and was made prisoner. There remained three years in captivity and were released by the forces of the caliph after the defeat of Saffârides at the time of the battle of Dair Al `Aqul in 876.
After its release, he was famous governor of Khorasan by the caliph Al-Driven `tamid. In fact it never again could exert a real authority on the area.
End of its life
Saffâride Ya' qub Ben Laith died in 879, its successor `Amr Ben Laith sought an arrangement with the caliphate. The caliph gave him the post of governor of Khorasan, thus stripping Muhammad of his title. `Amr Ben Laith chose `Ubayd Allah to go to fight in the western part of the province. `Amr Ben Laith would have used of his influence to spread the rumor that Muhammad supported the rebellion led by Ahmad Al Khujistani. This alliance was not obvious but served as a pretext to imprison it for.Muhammad regained the confidence of the caliph Al-Driven `tamid around 884 with the favor of peace between Saffârides and the caliphate. It was appointed governor of Baghdad in the place of his uncle and rival `Ubayd Allah and it took again also its title of governor of Khorasan although it never could take again the control of this area.
He died towards 890.
