Mueda is a city of the Mozambique in the province of Cabo Delgado. Mueda is the chief town of the district of the same name.
It is in Mueda that place had, the June 16th 1960, the massacre of Mueda, considered as having justified the rising of the autochtones against the Portuguese colonial power .
Mueda is also the center of the culture Makonde, whose ebony sculptures are universally known.
Mueda is on a high-plate, Planalto de Mueda, where the climate is excellent, but where, because of a permeable soil, water infiltrates with great depth, making difficult the drinkable water provision. About 1970, the Portugal carried out systems of drinking water supply, under the direction of engineer Canhoto. This work was supplemented ten years later by the Mozambican government, with the assistance of UNICEF and the co-operation Suisse.
