Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue
(MALT) (mucosa - associated lymphoid tissue) of the secondary lymphatic bodies is part which is located in a diffuse way in various bodies of the body for example in the digestive tract, the lungs, skin etc… always under the epithelium of the mucous membrane. These MALT are close histologically and functionally follicules found in the Ganglions, they contain lymphocytes B and T and T-helper.
Various types of MALT
They are often subdivided in a following way:- GALT (gut-associated lymphoid tissue): MALT located in the chorion of the Small intestine , composed amongst other things by the Plates of Peyer
- BALT (bronchus-associated lymphoid tissue): MALT associated with the bronchi
- NALT (nose-associated lymphoid tissue): MALT associated with the nasal cavity
- LALT (larynx-associated lymphoid tissue): MALT associated with the larynges
- SALT (skin-associated lymphoid tissue): MALT associated with the skin
- VALT (vascular-associated lymphoid tissue): a type of MALT recently discovered, associated with the arteries, whose role is unknown.
- CALT (conjunctiva-associated lymphoid tissue): MALT associated with conjunctive fabric in the eye
Role in the diseases
The MALT have a big role in the activation of the immunizing response, but they can be also the site of lymphomas, usually of the lymphomas non-hodgkinien. A special entity of the lymphomas present in MALT is that related to the bacterium Helicobacter pylori in the Estomac.
