Mrinal SEN

Mrinal SEN is a Bengali Réalisateur born in 1923. The scenario writer will occupy especially a place pariticulière in the Indian film production. Its most known works in Europe are Marginal the and Genesis . The scenario writer is regarded through his work as deeply Marxist and is a personality close to the Indian Communist party.

Biography

Resulting from an large family of middle class, Mrinal SEN grows in a context of engagement in the nationalist fight anti-British, and within an enlightened medium. Indeed its family, opened to the Moslems, rejects the system of the Caste S and denounces the religious obscurantism. Later, SEN joined the militant organization of avant-garde of the Communist party, whose influence on the theater and the cinema are strong. Its first films will be marked by it, taking the way of the political agitation, even of propaganda. Its political discourse will be refined, becoming more personal with maturity. The first combat which it carries out is that against misery and the famine: criticizing " the good intentions " middle-class humanism tagorien, SEN refuses to show a " poverty digne".
