Summary of the series

What does it occur after death? Eric Liberge imagines that we find ourselves on a new planet, skeleton in the middle of other skeletons, our land memories dedicated to disappear. A sad good leaves that the cartographer Victor Tourterelle, newcomer, do not seem to want to accept…

Mr Mardi-Gras Descendres belongs to these data bases which show how much these media are an art with whole share. Such an overpopulation of skeletons would be completely indigestible on big screen and soft in novel. The great force of Eric Liberge is to have made a success of a graphic prowess: in spite of a very detailed and dense drawing, characters with the inescapable resemblances, never the reader does not lose themselves and, on the contrary, the account is fluid and perfectly readable. Originally in black and white, this new edition is colorisée. A surprising decision and a priori disappointing for the readers of the first hour. However, the result is more convincing: very sober, the colors do not betray the environment of the account and will have surely the advantage of attracting new readers.

But qualities of this series do not stop there: Eric Liberge built a complex and intelligent universe with the multiple wheels, at the same time political and religious. Not always easy to follow, the reading requires a certain effort but it is worthwhile!

Volume 1: Welcome!

But where thus did Victor Tourterelle fall? A fatal slip on the small car which his/her son had forgotten in the bathroom, and here Victor Tourterelle dispatched without transition on other side of the mirror, with the right in the middle of a chalk desert, under a black sky like ink. Not a noise, not a heart. By his new state, Victor is delighted to be still all his aware, which is much clearer than on Earth! But of its body, there remain only the bones. Hagard, the departed does not imagine who it is at the dawn of the most insane adventure that no late never tried once unloaded in the other world.

This first volume received the Prix Rene Goscinny of 1999.

Volume 2: The telescope of Charon

The cartographer of the purgatory… A deaf anguish étreint osseous crowd since a newcomer, renamed Descendres Shrove Tuesday, publicly howled the refusal of his condition post-mortem and shouted with divine imposture. Shrove Tuesday manages to escape during its transfer towards Saint-Luc, the terrible place of twisted recovery of the spirits. Downtown and in all the other districts, the Militia leads gigantic beaten to the research of the dangerous rebel. Collected by the Cornice, a clandestine bunch, it is in charge of a titanic task in order to recover its heart: to chart the whole of the purgatory using the telescope of Charon which is useful since centuries with the assignment of the new terrestrial incarnations.

Volume 3: Country of the tears

The incredible adventure of more tormented skeletons! Always in the search of its heart retained by the sect of the Cornice, Mardi-Gras plunges in the middle of Pluto, in the eight circles of the Purgatory. Will that be enough to deliver it its wanderings? Why does it seem to be the only one to seek its redemption? Will it find the exit of the labyrinth? Outside, general rising is on the way…

Volume 4: The vaccine of resurrection

The wanderings of Mr Mardi-Gras Descendres end. Whereas he confronts himself painfully with his incarnations passed in the first circles of the Purgatory, the factor 24 and strange Architofel finally will raise the veil on the real nature of the Purgatory… In the district of Holy-Cecile, chaos is spread following a " overdose" collective (poured water of Léthé, coffee rain caused by the psychopompes in rebellion). A skeleton falls then on the formula from resurrection… But the penitent ones is they ready to find the sufferings of the life on ground?

; Descendres Shrove Tuesday: Victor Edouard Georges Turtle-dove, cartographer, born on August 31st, 1956, and deceased in the night from February 11th to 12th 1997 while slipping on the small car forgotten by his/her son Thimotée into the bathroom, number post-mortem 9.119.547 882.361.566 751.237. He is renamed Mardi-gras Descendres because he is deceased between fatty Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. Starting from the end of volume 1, it is made conspicuous by a cranium in Coffee mill.

; The factor 23: It accommodates new-come, gives to them their new identity and obliterates them. It circulates freely in spite of the insurrections, which results in thinking that it has a more important role in the hierarchy of the purgatory (septuagésime). It proves to have been Philibert Etienne, bishop of Paris and secret council of the pope of alive sound.

; Psychopompe 67: Pétronille Corpus Christi, member of the Cornice, vaguely trafficker, amateur of high-class wines, it accompany Descendres in his voyage in the middle of Pluto, and provides it out of coffee.
