Mp3PRO

The format mp3PRO is an algorithm of audio compression which combines the format MP3 with a replication of spectral band. This format is property of Thomson.

Presentation

Compression mp3Pro is presented in the form of an advantageous successor to the mp3. Indeed, the files generated by a coder mp3PRO are compatible with all the readers mp3. However only the certified readers mp3PRO profit from the additional advantages of this encoding.

The encoding mp3Pro presents three characteristics which make of it an offering system of compression of better sound results that those of simple a standard mp3:

the use of the VBR (for Variable Bit Rating ) which adapts in real-time the flow according to the density and of sound complexity;
the safeguarding of the acute band-width normally sacrificed by the standard mp3;
a sound quality equivalent to the 320 kbit/s of bush-hammering III in VBR (which varies between 64 kbit/s and 128 kbit/s) so that with quality equalizes a file mp3Pro allows a substantial space saver compared to a file standard mp3 (between 25% and 50% of profit).

Compatibility

codec mp3PRO is owner. Nevertheless a standard reader MP3 will be able to read a mp3PRO, but with a less quality.

Very little software takes into account the mp3PRO and only the wandering of Thomson mark and its subsidiary companies can benefit fully from it. There exists nevertheless a plugin Winamp making it possible to decode these files. Certain readers as Musicmatch Jukebox manage this format in a native way. This format is also proposed in demonstration with the continuation of Nero engraving. Other readers like XMMS (Linux) or XMPlay allow to read the mp3pro on the condition of installing the adequate plugin.
