Mozilla Add-ons
Mozilla Add-ons (https://addons.mozilla.org/), in the past called Mozilla Update , is a Web site proposing Add one S (or complementary Modules) for the software Mozilla of which Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird, SeaMonkey (which were formerly the Mozilla Application Continuation) and Mozilla Sunbird. These modules are presented in various forms: extensions, topics, dictionaries, Plugins in general and plugins for Search engine.
Being given that the Mozilla software proposes a whole bond towards this site, it is a question of the official place to download Mozilla modules, although there exists other Web site since which modules can be downloaded.
The site Mozilla Add-ons is sometimes called AMO or a.m.o. (Abbreviation of sound URL). Previously it was also called UMO because it was with the update.mozilla.org address.
Since its launching, the site underwent several material changes:
- the April 4th 2006, the pages intended for the public were rewritten basic in roof.
- the October 24th 2006, the pages relating to Firefox made new skin so that the topic corresponds with the new style of the mozilla.com site having also made new skin for the exit of Firefox 2.
The next version of the site, having for Code name Remora, will propose new entirely rewritten pages, at the same time for the public and the developers. This new version is awaited for the beginning of 2007.
For the difference in the site Mozdev.org which proposes a free lodging for the projects related to Mozilla, this Web site is not intended solely for the developers but also for the end-users.
The plugins most usually downloaded are Acrobat Reader, Flash Player, Java, QuickTime, RealPlayer, Shockwave, Windows Media Player. In January 2007, the site counted more than 2900 extensions and more than 200 topics.
One of the reasons of the success of Firefox near the Net surfers is his capacity to integrate new modules and plugins, which gives him more flexibility. These modules generally have a reasonable size, which goes from 5 KB to steps more than 2 Mo for largest, and change considerably the way in which the Net surfers use their navigator for surfer on the Web. Among the modules the most known, one finds (without particular classification): Download Statusbar, AD-Block More, McAfee SiteAdvisor, IE, Faster Fox, VideoDownloader, ChatZilla, FoxyTunes, Map+ and much of others still.
The site also proposes plugins to again add search engine in the search bar which by defect makes it possible to make a research on Google and also proposes to make research on other Web site like Amazon or Wikipedia.
