Kurt Alder (Königshütte, July 10th 1902, June 20th 1958) was a German Chimiste .
Kurt Ader made his studies with the Université of Kiel where he was the pupil then the collabotor of Otto Diels. He supports his thesis of doctorate in 1926. He continues his work in Kiel where he is named university lecturer in 1930 and professor in 1934.
From 1936 to 1940, he is director of the searchs for Bayer Werke in Leverkusen, a branch of I.G. Farben.
He is then chemistry teacher experimental and technical with the Université of Cologne where he is named professor and director of the institute of chemistry of the university starting from 1940 until his death.
Its principal contribution was the development, with Diels, of the reaction which bears their names. This reaction, very general, led to the formation of a cycle by reaction of a Diene, composed comprising reason C=C-C=C, with a diénophile, composed having a double suitably activated connection C=C. The reaction of Diels-Alder remains one of the very great general methods of organic Synthèse, very often used in the synthesis of natural products with structure complexes the such Cantharidine, the Réserpine or the Morphine.
In 1950, it jointly accepted the Nobel Prize of chemistry with Otto Paul Hermann Diels for their work on the reactions of Cycloaddition, of which the most famous door them two names: the Reaction of Diels-Alder.
