Mow Leñas

Tired Leñas , is one of the centers of Ski and most important Snowboard of Argentine. It is located in the Valley of Mow Leñas, in the Département of Malargüe, in the south of the province of Mendoza and inside the Andes cordillera.

History

In 1860 the botanist Peregrino Strobell, at the time of a voyage of scientific study arrives for the first time in a valley located at the foot of Cerro Torrecillas. To give him a name, it chooses the name of the species Adesmia Pinifolia a shrub that the tribe Mapuche, the first inhabitants of the zone, called Coli Mamil (what means firewood literally yellow - in Spanish Leña Amarilla ). From where the name of Tired Leñas .

The idea to create a center of ski a long time was born then persisted, but it was only it January 20th 1983 that the project started to be concretized. After several scientific studies, one concludes that the zone was ideal for the practice of the Winter sports and that its free microclimate of abundant precipitations made moreover possible the development of tourist activities estival and the remainder of the year. Finally one inaugurated the Center of Tired Ski Leñas the July 16th 1983, equipped then with three hotels suited to to lodge 400 people simultaneously. Currently in 2006, the city counts a hotel capacity of 3.074 rooms, associated with a gastronomical complex, the profiting whole of a recognition and international reputation.

Access

One can arrive at Las Leñas by terrestrial way since Buenos Aires by means of the road main road 7, since the province of Córdoba and the city of Rosario by the trunk road 40, and since Mendoza by means of provincial roads 222. By air, by means of Aeropuerto Internacional of Malargüe or of Aeropuerto Internacional of San Rafael.
