Le Monde reversed (original Title: The Inverted World ) is a Romance of Science-fiction writes in 1974 by the British novelist Christopher Priest.

Synopsis

“I had reached the age of 1000 km” Helward Mann which has just reached this age saw on an unknown planet in a city called Ground. This city has the strange effect of moving slowly on ways of railroad. Progressively from its displacement, the technicians of the Guilde of the ways withdraw the rails located at the back of the city to place them at before in order to allowing him to continue to advance. The way to be followed is fixed by the Guilde of the topographers of the future and the goal to reach is the Optimum . Escape ahead towards this Optimum dépent the survival of the city because this one moves continuously and, plus it moves away from there, plus it undergoes strange phenomena affecting space and time. Thus, Helward Mann, which has just reached the age of 1000 km and which must accompany back three country-women in their village outside the city, sees them it being metamorphosed under its eyes, being stretched in height or in width, while, behind him, the ravines are filled and the mountains are levelled.
