Movement for the social democracy (Cyprus)
The Movement for the social democracy EDEK (in Greek: Κινήμα Σοσιαλδημοκρατών ΕΔΕΚ - Kinima Sosialdimokraton EDEK, KS EDEK ) are a Cypriot Political party , of type Social-démocrate.
EDEK is the initials of Eniea Dimokratiki Enosis Kyprou (or Kentrou) (in English United Democratic Union off Center ).
It is a party member of the European Socialist party and Internationale Socialist.
Its leader is Mr. Yiannakis Omirou.
With the Room of the representatives (on a total of 56 + 3 Greek Cypriot deputies), KS EDEK obtained 4 deputies with the elections of 2001: KS EDEK (Movement of the Social democrats) - (the names are presented alphabetically except for the president of each party)

1969: creation of Eniea Dimokratiki Enosis Kyprou (EDEK)
The party is rested by the doctor Vasos Lyssaridis in 1969 under the name of EDEK. Its members were selected in the committee of re-establishment of the democracy in Greece and among the combatants of the group of Lyssaridis during the confrontations between Chypriotes Greeks and Turkish of 1964. This party supported the president Makarios III and many its members took part in the resistance armed with the July 15th 1974 of the coup d'etat against him. The president of the movement of the young people of the party (EDEN), Doros Loizou, was killed at the time of an attack to assassinate Lyssaridis itself in August 1974. Many young people of the party were expelled by it (trotskism) between 1979 and 1984 to form Aristeri Pteryga (Left wing).
