The mouths is a heraldic enamel of red color . In monochromic representation it is symbolized by vertical hatchings.
Certain authors, like Jouffroy d' Eschavannes, see the origin of the word in a word of origin Persan E gul or ghiul , which indicates a pink pale. The etymology is doubtful, and the remote bringing together, whereas the word “mouths” was usually used in the vocabulary of the dyers to indicate the throat of small Mustélidé S (Fouine, marten), and by extension, the furs made from those. “Cinnabar”, much less employed, is synonymous.
