Mousquet

A mousquet (of Italian moschetto ) is a portable Firearm with long gun, stick of shoulder and smooth heart, employed {{XVIe}} at the 19th century. It is the ancestor of our current rifle. The mousquet was invented for stage the lack of power of the Arquebuse S. the average length of the guns of the mousquets was of 1m20 and the balls could have a gauge of more than 20  mm ! Then gradually the guns were brought back to approximately 90  cm for a maximum gauge of 18  Misters.

France

Introduced in France after the Battle of Pavia (1525), the mousquet was until in 1650 pressed on a fork for the shooting. The Fantassin S armed with a mousquet were named Mousquetaires.

The United Kingdom

Very much used by the British as of the semi-Rebirth, the mousquet was the weapon of predilection of the armies. These rifles were used for the conquest of Canada during the Seven year old War, the Neapolitan wars and the war of 1812.

The United States

The first mousquet with rifled bore adopted by the the United States was the Modèle Springfield 1855 . It will be followed by the Model Springfield 1861, it was the most current weapon at the time of the American Civil War. Moreover, of many mousquets older with unrifled bore will be of use before and during the civil war. These mousquets with loading by the mouth will be replaced by the Model Springfield 1865 with loading by the cylinder head.
