Mourom
Mourom (in Russian: Муром ) is a city of the Oblast of Vladimir, in Russia. It is located at 290 km in the east of Moscow. The center town is along left bank of the river Oka, on the railway line Moscow - Kazan. Its population rises with 123 600 inhabitants in 2005.
The city is mentioned for the first time into 862: it was then located at the Eastern border of the zone of occupation of Slavic of the east, on the territory of Finno-ugric people called mouroma. It is one of the four older agglomerations of Russia.
Between 1010 and 1393, Mourom was the capital of a principality indépentante, which counted among its leaders saint Gleb, holy Constantin blessed, holy Pierre and Theuronia, who are the subject of an opera of Rimsky-Korsakov. It is also the birthplace of the most famous hero epic among the Slavic ones of the east: Ilya Mouromets .
The downtown area comprises three historical abbeys. The Monastère of Savior is one of oldest of Russie : it is mentioned in chronicles of 1096.
