Mounts of the Cantal

The mounts of the Cantal constitute the eroded remainders of old a Stratovolcan now extinct.

Demography and economy

Before the 13th century, the forest covered the whole of the solid mass, but cleared by the shepherds, it left room to the pastures where one meets the cows of race Salers whose milk is used to make cheese of cantal

In the valleys are cities and villages like Aurillac, Salers, Murat and Vic-on-Cère. Romance churches, and castles like the castle of Anjony with Tournemire.
