Mounting

The mounting is a Cercueil - Reliquaire generally of wood and richly decorated biblical passages , sheltering the relics of a Saint. During all the Moyen-âge the rise in a body in a mounting-reliquary was the final stage of the process official of Canonization by the Church. These objects of a great value symbolic system were a long time adored by the catholic within the framework of worships to the Saints who perdurent still today.

Famous mountings

  • the Mounting of saint Calmin (12th century) who contains the relics of the husbands founders of the Abbaye of Mozac (63). It is largest out of enamels of Limoges which is preserved at the world.
  • the mounting of saint Erkembode
  • the mounting of holy Bernadette (Bernadette Soubirous) (1925) containing the body still intact of the holy one. Its hands and its face have right summer coated with wax to avoid the blackening of the latter in contact with the air. It is currently preserved in the vault of Saint-Gildard of Nevers.
  • mountings of the holy husband Vincent of Soignies and holy Waudru of Mons in Belgium.
  • the mounting of Holy Taurin with Evreux.
  • historical Anecdote : At the time of the rainy summer of 1725 in France, the mountings of Holy Genevieve and Sainte Scholastic were " gone down " furnace bridges of the churches where they were respectively with Paris (by order of the Parliament) and with the Mans (by order of the bishop) to accompany by the processions.
