Mount Temple

The Mont Temple is a mountain located in the National park Banff in the Rocky Mountains Canadian. The Mount Temple is in the valley Bow between Paradise Creek and Moraine Creek. It is the most peak in the area of Lac Louise.

The mount was named by George Mercer Dawson in 1884, in homage to Richard Temple which visited Rock Canadian the same year. The Mount Temple was also the first top of 11.000 feet overcome in the Canadian part of the Rocky Mountains.

The July 11th 1955, in one of the most tragic accident of alpinism which has occurred in Canada, seven young teenagers American was killed while trying to climb it by a way on the South-western face. The particularly hot summer had caused many avalanches neighborhood. They decided, by precaution, not to finish the rise, but during the descent an avalanche low swept 10 members of 200 mêtres in a rock corridor. Unfortunately, forwarding had one ice axe with ice, and it seems that it is the lack of preparation and experiment which explains the drama.

In 1996, by one day of summer, a ceremony of marriage took place at the top.

Ways of rise

The mountain offers several ways of rise for the climbing ones and the usual way, which borrows the south-western face, offers a moderate difficulty. The climbing ones must pay attention on this way " facile" , with the stone falls and the avalanches.

South-western Face (normal road) I

At the end of July - at the beginning of August, the south-western way is generally deprived of snow, and is accessible for the informed mountaineers. An ice axe is recommended to reach the top.
