Mount-sun

Located at 1280 m of altitude in the Swiss commune of Saint-Imier, the station of Mount-Sun was born at the beginning of the 20th century, with the construction of a funicular and a large hotel. The ground of the Mount-Sun is made of layers of strongly inclined rocks limestones, so that the rain water runs out very quickly.

The station was equipped with the first water supply network of the peak of the Jura, thanks to a pumping plant. Before the First World War, the hosts came from Basle, of the Swiss plate, France and Germany.

After the crisis of the Thirties, one tried to give again life to him by creating a health resort having sanatoria.

Tourism

The Mount-Sun station is dedicated today to pedestrian tourism, the VTT and the ski touring. There are also tracks marked for the child's scooter and the rackets with snow.

In 1957, the station accommodated the Coupe Kurikkala, of the name of Jauho Kurikkala, a large Finnish cross-country skier. This international big demonstration joined together the elite of the ski touring of continental Europe.

Demonstrations

The Open Mount-Sun Air Festival was held there each year until 2006.

The solar power station

The Bernese Driving forces , the canton of Bern and Électrowatt built largest solar power station of Europe, brought into service on April 28th, 1992. Of a power of 500 kilowatts, it is capable to supply 200 households in period of sunning.
