Mount-Valin

Mount-Valin is an not-organized territory of the Quebec, (Canada), belonging to the regional Municipalité of county (MRC) of the Fjord-of-Saguenay the, located in the administrative area of the Saguenay-Lake-Saint-Jean.
Territory very slightly inhabited but strongly snow-covered, Mount-Valin is mainly known for the National park of the Mounts-Valin.
Origin of the name
Mount-Valin draws its name from the Monts Valin a long mountainous solid mass of approximately 120 km and with forty kilometers in the north of Saguenay. The most point of this solid mass, the Peak Dubuc, culminates with 980 meters of altitude. The mountain takes again the name of the river of the same name whose rather old name is attested at the 18th century. The name commemorates François Valin, born in 1693, of Old-Lorette the, close to Quebec.
Sports and leisures
The summer, the hiking is activitée the most practiced on the Mounts-Valins. The winter, in addition to the many paths of motoneiges, of splendid paths of rackets allow to reach, inter alia, the top of the Valin mount, from where one can have an impressive panorama on the area, and the Valley of the phantoms, where the trees were transformed into white phantoms under the heavy snowfalls. Basic ski slopes are also available. At each year in March the Turn of the Mount Valin, a popular race of ski touring takes place attracting of the skiers of all Quebec. There has existed now, for a few years, the Turn of the Mount Valin version bicycle which takes place in September.

- February 18th 2002: During the creation of the town of Saguenay, the territory is tranferé with the new MRC of Fjord-of-Saguenay.
