Moulay Abd Al-Hafid

Abd Al-Hafid (1873 - 1937), sultan of the Morocco (January 4th 1908 - March 30th 1912)

Opposed to the agreements of Algeciras and the passivity of the sultan vis-a-vis the French influence, it relieves his brother Abd Al-Aziz with complicity of Thami El Glaoui (Pasha of Marrakech). In 1911, Abd Al-Hafid, which more and more badly controls the interior of the country is found besieged with Fès by the Berber tribes and is found forced to request the French assistance. The general Moinier, with the head of an army of 23.000 men, releases the sultan the May 21st 1911. The situation is irreversible and leads to the convention of Fès of the March 30th 1912 which made of Morocco a French protectorate.

Moulay Abd Al-Hafid abdicates in favor of Moulay Youssef.
