Mouffette
The mouffettes constitute the méphitidés , a family of animals close to the Mustélidé S. Of intermediate size, blacks and white, pertaining to the order of the carnivorous . One finds them on all the American continent : they are only absent from extreme north of the Canada.
Presentation
The family of the méphitidés ( Mephitidae ) which gathers the mouffettes was created by Charles Lucien Bonaparte (1803-1857) in 1845.This family previously was regarded as one (Mephitinae) classified among the Mustélidé S.
The mouffette is very often confused with the Putois in the Cartoons and the Cartoons (like Belle Fleur in Bambi and Bambi 2 of Walt Disney Pictures, Pépé the fitchet at Warner Bros., or Stella in Our neighbors the men of DreamWorks), but these two species are members of different families: the mouffette (formerly Mustélidé, subfamily of the méphitinés ) is striped of black and white whereas the fitchet (mustélinés subfamily ) is brown.
She is also well-known by her Anglo-American name skunk , this last being largely promoted by the Cartoon and the American Cinéma. One can also employ the French term sconse .
This family is composed of three kinds of Mouffette S:
Its anal glands secreting a strongly nauseous liquid, the mouffette will not fail to sprinkle the imprudent one (E) which approaches a little too much close to it. The mouffette not being an aggressive animal of nature, this mechanism is before a a whole form of self-defense. 3-Méthylbutane-1-thiol (C5H12S) is in the anal bag of the striped mouffette. The sulfur compounds of this type (Thiol S), in which a group - S - CH3 replaced one - S - H, also contribute to the odor of the urine of the Renard S.
Remedies for the emanations mouffettières
The most known remedy for the emanations mouffettières, (some go until saying “most effective”) consists of a tomato juice bath. In spite of the popular belief, it cannot be prided to gain the palm of the effectiveness, because the tomato juice only contributes in fact to mask the odor. There exist special creams and ointments against the emanations mouffettières like the Neutroleum-Alpha for example.Paul Krebaum, a chemist of Illinois, developed a miraculous potion. He initially sought to eliminate from his laboratory of the stinking odors due to the thioalcohols (sulphuretted alcohols and phenols) produced naturally and often during the degradation of proteins. Containing hydrogen peroxide, of soap and bicarbonate of soda, its formula facilitates the connection of the oxygen molecules with thiols, thus neutralizing their so nauseous odor.
Paul Krebaum refused to patent his formula, by publishing it in October 1993 in " Chemical and Engineering News ".
Adapted here to the pets:
- One liter of hydrogen peroxide (Hydrogen peroxide);
- 1/4 of cup of Bicarbonate of soda (soda with paste);
- a spoon with coffee (5 ml) of Soap liquid.
Also park with the drivers nonchalants, because to strike a mouffette guarantees a a long time marked car.
Despite everything that, once tamed, (and possibly after ablation of its anal glands) the mouffette can be a pet extremely charming and soft not scorning the caresses.
