Mothers off the Disappeared

Mothers off the Disappeared is eleventh and last track of the album The Joshua Tree of U2 left in 1987.

The song was written in connection with the Mouvement of the mothers of the place of May, the mothers of thousands of children missing following the Coup d'etat of Videla and Galtieri in Argentine in 1976. They were kidnapped and were never re-examined since. The number of missing children is estimated at more than 30.000.

At the beginning seldom played during the round of the Joshua Tree Turn, Mothers off the Disappeared returns in the list of the pieces played during the concert of U" in February 1998, when they play Buenos Aires and Santiago of Chile, for an interpretation particularly moving when Mothers were invited on scene to say the name of their children.
