Mother

A mother is the biological or social relative of female sex of a Enfant, the relative of male sex being the father.

The word which means “mother” is one of most widespread in the world through all the Indo-European langes ( root my ), like in much of others (in Chinese for example: pinyin my ). In French, the word mom , childish formation by redoubling comes from the Latin and the Greek mamma which wants to say center .

The mothers are celebrated in many countries. In France, the Fête of the mothers takes place last Sunday of May. In Swiss, the Fête of the mothers takes place second Sunday of May. With the the United Kingdom, a similar festival ( Mothering Sunday ) takes place fourth Sunday of the Lent. With the the United States, in Australia and with the Canada, the mothers are with the honor second Sunday of May (it is about the Mother' S Day , name which goes back to the end of the XIXe century).

Various uses of the word “mother”

In our companies, the mothers who only raise their child are called “unmarried mother” (the child is born except marriage) or “unmarried mother” (the mother is still very young).

A woman who carries a child for another person or a couple is called “surrogate mother”.

The term of mother also gets busy to nominate any person corresponding to the stereotype of a mother (example: “the Michel Mother”).

In the Christian religion, “mother” is a kind of title to designate certain members of the religious community such as for example the abbesses. One can also say Mother Superior . A famous nun carrying the title of mother is Mère Teresa. The Virgin Mary has the title of Mère of God .

The term of mother is also used métaphoriquement to indicate:
