Most beautiful villages of France
Created in 1982, association the Most beautiful Villages of France was given for mission of promoting the tourist arguments of small common S rural rich person of an inheritance of quality.
At the end of the summer 2007, it counted 151 communes or hamlets members.
The criteria of accession to the label fixed by association are many and severe: to the three basic criteria, population lower than 2000 inhabitants, deposit of an application to join approved by the Municipal council and possession of at least two sites or listed monuments or registered, is added in particular the choice of a policy of safeguarding of the landscape which must be concretized in the tools of town planning. The payment of a contribution is necessary labelized villages, and those which would cease taking part in work of association are displaced.
The association of the most beautiful villages of France was born with Collonges-the-Red (Corrèze), in 1982, on the initiative of the former mayor Charles Ceyrac. Currently the president is the mayor of Gordes Maurice Chabert.
Similar associations were created in other countries, in Belgium (most beautiful villages of Wallonia), with the Quebec and in Italy in particular.
