History
Mentioned in the Chronica Boemorum of Cosmas of Prague, Most is one of the oldest towns of Bohemia. As much of cities of the area, she is inhabited mainly by German of Sudètes until the expulsion of those in 1945.
She enters declining after the Guerre Thirty Year old but knows one period of economic prosperity starting from second half of the 19th century with the development of mining industries (coal, lignite) and other industrial activities using this energy source.
In 1895, a landslide absorbs certain houses and their inhabitants.
Rare fact in the history of the cities, Most was literally “moved” in the Années 1960 to make place with the extensive mining activities of extraction of the lignite. Only a church (see photo) was preserved and rebuilt with identical in the 28 days space, the remainder of municipal constructions being simply destroyed, a new Ville taking its continuation.
One can say that Most thus lost its heart. It is a badly liked city and - let us say-the - not very gravitational, work of communist town planning.
