Mosque Hassan II
The mosque Hassan II is located at Casablanca (Morocco). Planned on the site of old the public swimming pool, its construction began the July 12th 1986 and its inauguration took place the August 30th 1993. The square of the mosque can accommodate: 120000 faithful and the room of prayers: 25000 faithful.
It is the 3rd larger mosque in the world, after Masjid Al-Haram with Mecque and that of Médine.
Built on the sea, this one has a Minaret 200 height m, which is in fact the religious building highest of the world. Craftsmen recruited in all the cities of the kingdom had carved 53000 m ² of wood and had painted more than 10000 m ² of Zellige (ceramic) for the mosque Hassan II.
The stability of the works of protection to the sea, proved to be insufficient of important work of reinforcement of the damming up are in hand since October 2006.
A sliding roof of great dimension, allows according to the wish of Hassan II to connect this building to the air which is one of the three elements beneficial to the life, with the ground and water.
Conceived by the architect Michel Pinseau, it was built by the French group Bouygues, the control of work being ensured by its Moroccan subsidiary company the Bymaro company.
History
Foundation on July 12th, 1986 then inauguration on August 30th, 1993, after seven years of work. Few articles report this building site which resulted in building the largest mosque of the world. There are thus here only figures which show the width of the building site but unfortunately not its beauty.Since the mosque is at the seaside, the foundations required 26000 m3 of concrete and 59000 m3 of riprap in order to fight against the effects of the Houle. For the construction of the building containing the room of prayer, the minaret and the madrassa, eight cranes of 220 T to the square meter and twelve cranes mobile were installed.
For the realization of the minaret, a crane a height record of 210 m, was installation. The structures of the whole of the mosque are in reinforced concrete equipped with decorations resulting from the Moroccan Artisanat. The realization of the whole of work mobilized approximately: 35000 workmen and craftsmen carrying out 50 million work hours.
The room of prayers is surmounted by a mobile roof of 3400 m2 and 1100 T which can move in five minutes thanks to a system of bearing with chain. When the roof is closed, the room of the prayers is lit by 50 glosses and eight brackets out of glass of Murano. Most imposing six meters diameter, ten meters height measure and weigh 1200 kg.
The cover of the roof required the installation of: 300000 Tile S especially made out of cast iron of Aluminum by the group Bouygues (project superintendent) imitating the traditional glazed terra cotta tile of Fès but four times lighter. These tiles brought a profit of weight of 65% compared to the traditional tiles with performances of reliability much higher.
For the religious completion and objects, craftsmen of all the kingdom contributed to cover more than 53000 m2 of wood carved and painted more than 10000 m2 of zellij representing 80 original reasons. The carved and painted plaster was entirely worked on the spot by: 1500 artists on more than 67000 m2. The Coupole S out of wood were fixed on Charpente S carried out with 971 T of stainless steel and suspended at the reinforced concrete structure.
The mosque is decorated of 124 fountains and basins in Marbre.
