Moskova
The Moskova (formerly spelled Moskowa in French, Russian: Москва-река) is a river of Russia, affluent of the Oka. It crosses Moscow. The river makes 502 km length. The catchment Area of Moskova is of 17.600 square kilometers. The river freezes about November-December and thaws out towards the end of March. Its principal affluents are the rivers Rouza (Руза), Istra (Истра), Yaouza (Яуза), Pakhra (Пахра) and Severka.
Moskova also runs in the towns of Mojaïsk, Zvenigorod, Joukovski, Bronnitsy, Voskresensk and, with the junction of Moskova and the Oka, Kolomna.
Moskova , Moskowa and Moscow is three transliterations of the same Russian word: Москва (Moskva) . The name of the city is borrowed from that of the river.
The Bataille of Moskowa, that the Russians call Bataille of Borodino (close to Mojaïsk), refers to the river which ran not far from the battle field.
A channel connecting Moskova and the the Volga was built during the second Five-year plan Soviet.
