Morvan Marchal , of its French name Maurice Marchal , born the July 31st 1900 with Glazed, in Ille-et-Vilaine, and died the August 13rd 1963 with Paris, is a Architecte and a Militant Breton.

Biography

After the First World War, former student of the Saint Martin's day college of Rennes, Marchal is pupil architect with the École of the Art schools of Rennes. It founds, in 1918 the Breton regionalistic Groupe, whose review is Breiz Atao (Brittany Toujours). In January 1919, appears the first number of this review of which the initial goal was primarily cultural. It ensures of it the direction like that of the Yaouankiz Vreiz (Breton Jeunesse) until in 1928.

It conceives the Drapeau Gwenn ha Of the in 1923. Artist, poet and illustrator, it brings his collaboration to many Breton publications, as well political as philosophical. It belongs to the group of Breton artists " The Seiz Breur ".

It takes part in the creation of the Parti Breton separatist with the first congress Breiz Atao in September 1927 with Rosporden. One finds it in the management committee of the party. In constant competition with Olier Mordrel, it often breaks with the movement Breiz Atao. Having left the PAB, it would have adhered a time to the Radical party, from which it would have been excluded for its catches from opinion on Brittany.

At the time of its congress of the April 11th 1931, PAB explodes under the divergences. Marchal adheres then to the federalistic Ligue of Brittany, from which it creates in 1932 the review federal Brittany , variation of left of the policy of Breiz Atao. In 1934, at the end of the league, it joined the Breton federalistic Mouvement, with Gestalen, Francis Bayer of Kern, Goulven Mazéas and Rafig Tullou.

It signs in 1938 proclamation of the Breton federalists with Y. Gestalen, Ronan Klec' H, Francis Bayer of Kern, Raphaël Tullou and Per Goulven against the war to come. This proclamation affirms:

“the pressing duty to gather those of our compatriots who do not want to confuse Brittany and Église, Brittany and reaction, Brittany and puerile bias anti-French, Brittany and capital, and even less Brittany and racism. ” (p. 14)

It turns to the philosophical studies and occultists and worms of the druidic studies and Symbolists and founds with Francis Bayer of Kern and Rafig Tullou, Kredenn Geltiek (belief Celtic) and the review Nemeton (the Clearing). He is the néo-druid Maen Nevez or Artonovios .

He is condemned to the Libération with a sorrow of national unworthiness. He expatrier then in the Parisian suburbs and becomes employed gas. He leaves some contributions to reviews, of which Symbolism of Marius Lepage, in addition member of the Loge Volney of the Grand the East with Laval. Itself would have made its entry there on May 1st, 1938.

He dies under miserable conditions, in 1963 in the common room of the Hôpital Lariboisière.

A street of the district of Poultière in the North-East of Vitré bears its name.
