This article treats first play of the series; to see also the article on the series '' Mortal Kombat ''.
Mortal Kombat (commonly shortened MK) is a Video game of Midway left on Borne arcade in 1992, famous for its violence, its brutality and its side gore. The history is centered on the first Tournament Mortal Kombat organized by the Shaolins monks and the ultimate defeat of malefic the Shang Tsung vis-a-vis Liu Kang. It gave rise to a series whose second shutter is Mortal Kombat II .
Gameplay
The play is a response of Midway to Capcom and its play of combat to success Street Fighter II: The World Warrior , which generated many sets of engagements. However, it employed a system of distinctly different combat, which was employed besides in all the following plays until Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance .
Contrary to Street Fighter and of its drawings to the hand , the animation of Mortal Kombat is made up of digitalized images (starting from sequences filmed actors carrying out the various movements) what gives one made rather unusual: the graphics of the characters is very fine, their animations are fluid but are not connected always perfectly (defect inherent in the technique used). Only the animation of the under-Boss required the recourse to the technique called Stop-Motion.
The player lays out, in addition to a multidirectional cross of 8 directions, 5 buttons of action: High Kick, Low Kick, High Punch, Low Punch, and Block (blow being used to avoid). Contrary to Street Fighter, to block a blow inflicts damage with the blocker nevertheless. If the two characters are with the body with body, face to face, the actions are different; for example, a Low Punch is transformed into small brush/projection. The same applies with the other blows. The special blows are done by maintaining a direction while pressing a button of attack. It is in this manner that certain blows like the Uppercut are realizable, the most powerful blow. The specific blows require as for them a combination of blow carried out quickly. Handling, just like the produced effect, differs for each character.
The play maintained a system of score similar to the other plays of combat, namely a system based about the successful blows, the mini play Test Your Might and other no-claims bonus.
Another of the great innovations of the series are the Fatality : At the end of the second round gained by a player, the inscription “ Him Finish! ” or “ Her Finish! ” (literally “Stop le/la! ”) appears and the victorious player can then carry out a handling starting a Fatality , put at violent death of the adversary intended to complete it more macabre manners.
History
It there has 500 years, the tournament annual of Shaolins, eager to represent the tournament of the most prestigious combat in the world, was stopped by an old wizard and a strange creature equipped with four arms which entered the tournament and overcame large the Kung Lao. This warrior Shokan was half-human, half-dragon. Called Goro, he became the ultimate champion during the five next centuries. It was the plan of Shang Tsung to break balance between the good and the evil and to plunge the world in chaos to help the kingdom of Outworld (translated by " In addition to-Monde" in films) to conquer Earthrealm (Kingdom of the Earth).
Liu Kang fell under the tournament with the intention to restore balance. A famous actor fan of martial arts, Johnny Cage, also presented himself to the tournament and attracted himself the sympathy of Liu Kang when a combat burst between him even and Kano. The warrior of Flax Kuei, Sub-Zero was invited to join the tournament by Shang Tsung itself. The spectrum ninja Scorpion as took share with the tournament to him, with like intention to kill Sub-Zero, thinking as this last responsible for its characteristic had died. Raiden, god of the thunder, was also required by Shang Tsung itself, and the god answered him that “all those which would be opposed to Raiden would be crushed. ” It took the form of human in order to take part in the tournament.
Kano, the most diabolic gangster about the black Dragon was pursued by a unit of special forces of the United States, carried out by the lieutenant Sonya Blade, when he managed to go up in a driving boat to the tournament; its goal in this last was to plunder the palate of Shang Tsung, where the rumor tells that the walls are made of gold. Once arrived Sonya and its men, Shang Tsung attracted them in an ambush established by its personal army. The unit of special forces was made imprison, and Sonya had other choices to only take part in the tournament in order to save its team.
Thus the tournament took place.
