Morsott is a commune located to 34 km in the north of the place chief of wilaya of Tébessa on Main road 16, connecting Tebessa to Annaba (Böne, Hippone).
Mosrott is located in the downstream of the plate of Djebel Boukhadra on the slope El Hodh. It is a plate if one takes into account Djebel Boukhadra, Djebel Tebessa and Djabel Mzouzia. This city become officially into 1884 mixed commune according to the French code of the indégénat (department of constantine at the time colonial. It is the city of the large tribe of Ouled Yahia and more particularly of the tribe of Meghrassa. Word MORSOTT holds its orgines MARSET (word Berber: Maghret, of the Magharsa) which means " Plain of the growers, farmers from where the name " Maghressa". Others think that it probably comes MORSUTUS which means in Latin (name given by the Romans) camping or Halt. Morsott was used by the Romans like a camp of entrainment and a military relay. In the East of Morsott on the road of Boukhadra Meridj, the area knew the last battle between Romains and the faithful ones of a chief Bebere king Jughertha who showed his defeat and his fold on Galaat ESSANNE, where it was capuré by the Romans following a complicity and of a treason of the close relations. This road knew the passage of Héllaliens later then the conquest of the Moslems. Thereafter the Berber ones of this areas and Arabic Héllaliens became Moslem sunites.
It is constable that some ruins of the Roman epoch are still debouts and unaltered. These ruins could resist the acts of vendalism perpetrated with the wire of time. The famous KHAIMA or Bordj Erromane (the tower of the Romans) and a Tunnel of more than several km passage under ground which connects Khaima and Ksar Ghola is most famous. Certain archeologists think that the tunnel was used for to encircle King Jugertha. Others estimate that it is punic time.
The majority as of these not identified ruins (Neolithic, punic, Roman and propablement Islamic) were destroyed. We say islamitic, the pière is not the property of the Romans. The armies muslmanes forwarded by this road which by Tunisia to join the constantinois. Parts of antiquity of this area were confiscated and sold a little everywhere in the world, these parts in most of the time forwarded by Tunisia towards other countries. The parts most sought by the collectors and the hunters are the funeral lamps and which are very estimated everywhere in the world and that the local populations sell them with the ridiculous prices.
This area is known also by the famous ones and its traitors. The Romans found relays treacherous for caputer King Jugertha. The Turkish domination found a strong support at certain families of the areas. Morsott was also a relay of Mador with Hipponne. St Agustin remained there.
The historical richness of this commune made of it the stronghold and the decision-making center of the large confideration Ouled Yahia whose principal tribes are them: Megharsa, Malim, Mrazgua, Blala, Haraissia, Ouled Brik and Ouled Moualah.
