Albums
Morrissey and the French cinema
The British singer always carried France, and in particular the French Cinéma, in his heart. Thus, as of the period
The Smiths, whereas it is itself which carries out the small pockets of the albums of the group, Morrissey chooses an image of Jean Marais in the film
Orphée (1950) to illustrate the 45-turns
This Charming Man and that of
Alain Delon in
the Unsubmissive person (1965) as a cover for the album
The Queen is Dead .
In its last album, the song “At Last I Am Born” contains this verse: “Look spectral At me now/from difficult child/to hand/to Claude Brasseur/blah, blah, blah, blah…” a homage to the actor that Morrissey had discovered in Bande with share , a film of Jean-Luc Godard left in 1964.
At the time of the concert given to the Olympia the April 11th 2006, the scene was in particular decorated with a reproduction large size of a photograph of Sacha Distel, Morrissey quoting this evening Anna Karina, Sami Frey, Brigitte Bardot, but also Serge Gainsbourg and Francoise Hardy among her preferred artists. Lastly, to the summer 2006, to the festival Rock'n'roll in the Seine, in Paris, the singer presented himself to the public as being “Jean Gabin”.
