Moria (video game)

Moria is a Video game, a Rogue-like, based on the history of the Seigneur of the rings . The goal of this play is to reach the bottom of the labyrinth of galleries of the Moria and to kill the Balrog. The original version was written by Robert Alan Koeneke with the Université of Oklahoma after having hung to Rogue without to have been able to make it turn on a computer VAX 11/780 using VMS of which it had the access.

The first version was written in Pascal VMS and was finished during the summer 1983. As of 1985, the source code was widely distributed according to a license which authorized its division and its modification at not-commercial ends. The last version of Koeneke, Moria 4.7 , date of 1986 or 1987.

Moria inspired by many derived version. Jim E. Wilson for example created Umoria , a version modified in C for Unix. With the University of Washington, a version modified in a PASCAL called Imoria was developed, it was carried then out of C by Steve Kertes. Angband is a derivative of Umoria programmed with the Université of Warwick. Moreover, Moria seems to have been a source of inspiration for Diablo.
